While budgets are very thin the new Belleair Causeway Boat Ramp and Park needs basic amenities such as vending, permanent restrooms and services for boaters and visitors. If you haven’t visited the area, make the brief jaunt off the causeway down to the boat ramp area. A walk around the area is a stroll worth [...] While humans were uncomfortable during the blast of record cold weather in the past few days, the real damage will be the loss of thousands of fish. Soon there will be every species of game fish floating along our shores. Already there have been reports of snook, one of the more temperature sensitive fish, floating [...] Join us Saturday January 9th and Sunday January 10th for a Mimosa toast to our first full year at the Bluffs location. The complimentary Mimosas (Champagne and orange juice) are our way of saying THANK YOU for a great first year. After construction delays and customary regulatory issues, we opened last year to a welcoming community in [...] Without much fanfare, the bridge and boat ramp appear to be open. The area around the boat ramp is impressive with plenty of parking for cars and boat trailers. The fishing pier and docks are large and seem to be fully functional. The quiet opening was just the simple removal of barricades that prevented access. All of us at Maggie Mae’s offer our best wishes for the holiday season. There is no other time of year that seems to unite people of all origins in a mindset [...] Of the dozens of bridge projects in the last few years, the Belleair Bridge has been the most organized, least aggravating and fastest major bridge done in a long time. The county and contractors should be commended. Here are some of the dates you may want to remember for the next couple of months. The FDA has announced a proposal to require oyster harvesters to “process” oysters after harvesting to eliminate any potential bacteria. Citing eight deaths in the United States in 2008 linked to oyster bacteria, the FDA thinks regulation is important. Of course, they forget that more people died from choking on Salt Water Taffy at fairs [...] Both Maggie Mae’s locations and Backwaters will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. We only close two days a year (Christmas Day,also) so our staff can spend a little time with their families. May you have much to be thankful for now and throughout the Holiday season. |
